Our Story

Elmira Theatre Company, as a vibrant community group, exists to promote diverse theatrical opportunities through a commitment to skills development and artistic excellence.

Elmira Theatre Company (ETC) was founded in 1981 by a group of young Elmira District Secondary School graduates who wanted to continue creating excellent theatre, as they had been taught in the EDSS drama program. Since then ETC has become well known in local theatre circles for its quality productions, especially its comedies. Elmira is located in south-central Ontario and members come from all over the Waterloo Region and nearby towns and cities. New members are always welcome, regardless of ability.

The Elmira Theatre Company is a member of the Western Ontario Drama League (WODL), a body of over twenty community theatre groups encompassing an area from the Bruce Peninsula, south to Lake Erie and west to Sarnia. Each year WODL sponsors a drama festival that is hosted by a different group annually. Over the years Elmira has won numerous awards and been nominated for many more at these festivals. One of our proudest moments was winning not only the WODL competition in 1993 but also going on to the next level, the Theatre Ontario competition, and winning that as well with the comedy, Opening Night, by Norm Foster. We won the WODL festival again in 2018 with On a First Name Basis, also by Norm Foster.

Elmira Theatre Company currently produces 3 shows each season, our first being in November, second in February and the last show in April/May.  We look forward to seeing you at the theatre!
